Interrogatories

Written questions in a lawsuit that the other party must answer in writing under oath.

Interrogatories are part of discovery. Each side serves a list of questions on the other party, who must answer them in writing under oath within a set period (typically 30 days).

Interrogatories are useful for getting facts, identifying witnesses, and locking the other party into a position they have to defend at deposition or trial. They're a slower, lower-stakes way to gather information than depositions, but they leave a written record.
